February 28 picks – Late edition

With the departure of Kevin Shattenkirk, the St. Louis Blues look to end a 3 game losing streak against a team who is facing their own losing streak. The Oilers are struggling when it comes to special teams, giving up three power play goals in their last match against the Predators. Look for the Blues to try and take advantage of the Oilers dismal face off percentage, which is last in the league.

The Pick – The Blues will still be victorious even without Shattenkirk.

Uh oh another team who is coming off the dreaded 5 day bye. The Jets are hoping to not be on the negative side of statistics when it comes to that first game back from the break (teams are 7-13-4). The Wild however were on the right side of the score in their last game when they beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-4 in overtime. Minnesotas offensive numbers are aggressive, landing second in the league for goals and shots per game.

The Pick – The Wild will win tonight. Expect a high scoring game.

The Penguins are riding a 2 game winning streak and land in Dallas where the struggling Stars sit in 6th place in the Central Division. The Penguins are 1st in the league in goals and shots on goal, while the Stars are 29th in goals allowed. Expect a high scoring game on at least one side of the scoreboard.

The Pick – Pittsburgh will shut out the Stars (bold prediction)

Calgary comes into this game on a nice 4 game winning streak while the Kings are were on the wrong side of an overtime loss. Ben Bishop is expected to make his Kings debut and do his best to stop the red hot Johnny Gaudreau. Johnny Hockey has six assists and two goals in his past four games. Someone should probably mark him… I’m just saying. The Kings are on the outside of the playoff picture right now, so expect them to be ready and raring to get all of the points they can.

The Pick – Bishop gets his first win in black and white… but on color tv… HD specifically.

Mumps and moves, the Canucks are having a really rough time getting over everything that is flying around in Vancouver… or what’s not. With the departure of Alex Burrows being traded to the Ottawa Senators, the Canucks are facing not only a lot of negative feedback from fans, but also players are still recovering from an outbreak of the mumps. The Red Wings will be unveiling a new uniform tonight… Hazmat themed jerseys. No… they aren’t but they really should. Between constant trade speculations for both teams, and losing streaks, this game should “break out” into something worth watching. (See what we did there? What, too soon?).

The Pick – The mumps have it… Vancouver wins.

The San Jose Sharks have dominated the Toronto Maple Leafs in games past looking for their 9th win in a row against the Leafs and their 13th in the last 14 encounters. San Jose needs to stay out of the penalty box, as the Leafs are 1st in the league on the power play with a 22.8% success rate.

The Pick – San Jose will continue to dominate the Leafs.
